Analysed video no. 1
Marina and the Diamonds
I really like this video because it's a hybrid/ mixture of mainly staged performance music video with elements of narrative (Diane Railton and Paul Watson- 'Music video and the politics of representation'). For example a narrative part is 1:07 whereas instead, the dancers are staged performances on 1:12. I reckon this video is bubblegum pop because of the fact that parents wouldn't mind if their 11 year old daughter watched this video because it's suitable for children. Instead when you look under pop you will find, Britney Spears, Jessie J, Nicki Minaj which are not suitable for young people. Also, I think that the bright, bold colours are eye catching, the lighting is bright and the editing is very cartoony which, also reinforces the child like appeal.
At certain moments she is edited to dance or move at the same time as the beat of the song repeatively, for example 2:11.
The thing that i find interesting about this video is that she is put in different scenarios and representing different roles. An example is, 0:16 because she seems to be at work and 0:55 because she seems like a rich but bored, housewife. This shows the artist can play different roles and that she can connect with different types of audience.
It is obvious that for the target audience, Marina is the main interest because the whole video is based around her and there are a lot of close-ups of her which, reinforces Andrew Goodwin's view on artists. Goodwin said that there is a demand from the record company for lots of close-ups of the artist. Also, the camera, throughout the video is always facing forward or towards her which connotes that the audience is very interested on how she acts and dresses probably, because they inspire to be like her.
Joe Gow identified 6 different types of music video genres and i think that this is a 'song and dance number' because it focuses on the physical ability and the vocal presentation of the artist.
All in all i think that this video is a great inspiration for the kind of music video i would like to do. I will probably use some of the elements from this video because it's fun, colourful and interesting for my girl band music video.

Analysed video no. 2
Olly Murs- Busy
I love the Olly Murs video because of the fact its a bit surreal. I suspect that he got a intertextual reference from the movie Lars and the Real Girl.
The Olly Murs video is clearly a narrative (Diane Railton and Paul Watson- 'Music video and the politics of representation') music video because the lyrics connect with the video. The video extends the lyrical content of the song. This is what Goodwin identified that a music video should have. The narrative is quite clear with a biggining, Olly building a doll and thinking that it's a real person, middle, Olly introducing her to the family but the family not believing that its a real person and ending, which shows that the doll is a real person. The video is set in the 1960's but it still connects with the authentic artist image. This is because Olly Murs tends to dress with a vintage, quirky style. This works completely well with his cheecky chappy type of attitude. Andrew Goodwin aslo identified that an artist should have a lot of close-ups in order for the audience to understand what the artist is feeling and understand the plot of the story and it is demonstrated 1:17. There are lot of two shots in this video which connotes that the main characters, Olly and the doll, have a connection or relationship.
The setting, props, location is from a film set in the 1960's which makes it unique and fresh compared to all of the music videos we see on the television now.
Steve Jones identified 3 narrative forms for every video and i think that this video is an analog narrative video because of the fact that it's a non-concert performance of the song intercut with other material. Reference from, 'Cohensive but not Coherent: music videos, narrative and Culture'.
Analysed video no.3
You Me at Six- The Concequence
I really like the representation that the video gives the band. The video is a Pseudo-documentary (Diane Railton and Paul Watson- 'Music video and the politics of representation' ) because of the fact that it feels like we are witnessing a live performance and the bands day to day lives. The video gives the viewer an insight on the band and it captures the band in their natural enviroment (cinema-verite). This makes the audience feel like they are part of the action and wether the band is good live. The band can benefit from this video because it show off their talent and it shows their real faces to the audience. The video also shows the band talking to their fans which is a bonus because it makes the audience feel appriciated and part of a group. The fact that the music video has been edited in black and white fully connotes to the audience that they are a rock band, this is because black and white reinforces authenticity and it is a common convention of the music video genre. Also, black and white adds a sort of mistery to the band .
Andrew Goodwin identified different aspects needed in a music video. For this particular video there isn't an obvious relationship between the lyrics and visuals, some of the things they say link in with the video. Goodwin says that there is a demand from the record label that the artist have a lot of close-ups in the video and an example of this is 1:13 in the video.
Joe Gow also said that there are different types of music videos and i think that the one that best fits this music video is, the Performance Documentary because it contains on stage performance and off stage activity.
There is a lot of cut editing throughout the video which shows the best aspects of the band in action. The video also shows the silly side of the band which is a contrast from their normal rock band image.
There is a high level of versimilitude in the video and it witnesses the naked reality even though we know that it has been edited to show the best bits.
Toothpaste kisses Photoshop Animation video
To gain a wider knowledge and develope new skills on music video techniques i experimented with photoshop to create an animated photoshop music video. I really enjoyed doing this short project because it has given me greater confidence in using photoshop but i don't think i'll be using this for my own music video because my genre of music does not fit this criteria.

ABC song video
In this short project i worked with Sophie and we learned the basics on how to use a camera. We developed new skills on how to use Adobe Premiere to help us with our music videos later on in the year.
