Analysed video no.3

You Me at Six- The Concequence

I really like the representation that the video gives the band. The video is a Pseudo-documentary (Diane Railton and Paul Watson- 'Music video and the politics of representation' ) because of the fact that it feels like we are witnessing a live performance and the bands day to day lives. The video gives the viewer an insight on the band and it captures the band in their natural enviroment (cinema-verite). This makes the audience feel like they are part of the action and wether the band is good live. The band can benefit from this video because it show off their talent and it shows their real faces to the audience. The video also shows the band talking to their fans which is a bonus because it makes the audience feel appriciated and part of a group. The fact that the music video has been edited in black and white fully connotes to the audience that they are a rock band, this is because black and white reinforces authenticity and it is a common convention of the music video genre. Also, black and white adds a sort of mistery to the band .
Andrew Goodwin identified different aspects needed in a music video. For this particular video there isn't an obvious relationship between the lyrics and visuals, some of the things they say link in with the video. Goodwin says that there is a demand from the record label that the artist have a lot of close-ups in the video and an example of this is 1:13 in the video.
Joe Gow also said that there are different types of music videos and i think that the one that best fits this music video is, the Performance Documentary because it contains on stage performance and off stage activity.
There is a lot of cut editing throughout the video which shows the best aspects of the band in action. The video also shows the silly side of the band which is a contrast from their normal rock band image.
There is a high level of versimilitude in the video and it witnesses the naked reality even though we know that it has been edited to show the best bits.
